First of all, the Eucharist is not a blood sacrifice, it is one and the same sacrifice of Calvary, but bloodless.

Perhaps it's my clumsy expression again. I understand that. I was commenting on the gory nature of god - on the fact that god deemed blood sacrifice to be the means of saving mankind and then, as an act of remembrance, asked people to drink his blood and eat his flesh.

Interesting aside. I was watching a Halloween episode of Simpsons last night Bart where was the only individual in town who had an immunity to the rampaging, flesh eating zombies. The doctor wanted to get his blood to create a vaccine. Homer wanted to eat him. Marg said, "No one goes around eating the flesh and drinking the blood of their saviour, do they?" - with a quizzical look. My daughter turned around and asked if it was true that Christians do this. When I said yes she responded - "Ew!!, gross".

The interesting thing is that my daughter goes to a Christian school - and she didn't know about eating flesh and drinking the blood of Jesus.

There is nothing grotesque or savage about it.

I guess that is very much in the eye of the beholder. I think the effect might have worn off because you've been exposed to it for so long.

I wonder whether there are any vegetarian Catholics and whether they realise they are eating flesh and drinking blood every Sunday?

I keep saying it is not a blood sacrifice, yet you ignore that and repeat the same mantra over and over.

I'm not referring to the cross, I'm referring to the practice each Sunday of eating the wafer and drinking the wine. The Catholic church says these are not symbols of Jesus blood and flesh, but are ACTUALLY his blood and flesh. Now that doesn't make sense to me, but nevertheless, if I accept it at face value it means that each Sunday millions of people are partaking in a cannibalistic ritual.

That's what I mean.

And even if by devouring the wine and wafer you are merely symbolically drinking blood and eating human flesh then it is still an idea that I find quite repulsive.

There are more civilised ways of remembering someone.
