Like God still doesn't control the weather.

Nothing can happen unless God wills it or permits it. The priest was of course correct. God still punishes however he pleases.

Wouldn't you think the whole state of things right now is a warning of sorts? Shoot re-looking a lot of things in my own life these days. I have not spoken of punishments "from God" at all. I have spoken of God as an intervenor to prevent such punishment in certain cases.

Which is in point of fact God's punishment. It's sort of describing God as some metaphysical juggler who purposefully lets a ball drop every once and awhile. The point in any "lesson" that God might want to teach is sort of lost when the victims are not the sinners
